4/1/14

Softball Hawks moved to 8-2 for the season with a 7-0 win over Heritage.  Kaleigh Wynne pitched the shutout striking out 14 hitters and giving up just 1 hit.  Olivia LaSorsa had 3 hits to pace the Hawks offense and Chelsey Texiera added a double.  Softball Hawks play Maryville at home today.  First pitch is 5:30 p.m.

Tennis won all their matches yesterday.  They play today at Oak Ridge.

Congratulations to the Juniors for defeating the Seniors last night in Powder Puff.  Thank you to all who came to the game.  $1200 was raised for the Arthritis Foundation.

My Amazing Life is Thursday, April 3rd.  All Juniors, please bring a calculator and pencil when your academy comes to the gym.

Streetsafe is Saturday, April 5th at 9 a.m.  There are still spaces available.  Please look at the eTalon for registration information.

On Wednesday, April 2 at 11 a.m. (during Advisory), a representative from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville's Ignite Program will be giving a presentation to current seniors who plan to attend UTK in the fall.  Ignite is a great way for incoming students to get a head start on leadership and involvement at UTK.  Ignite programs will be offered throughout the summer.  Dates are strategically placed near orientation sessions or campus move-in dates.  If you are a current senior planning to attend UTK in the fall, we strongly encourage you to attend this presentation that will be held in the Guidance Office during Advisory on Wednesday.

The Greater Knoxville Teens for Christ Crusade is Thurday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 at West High School Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.  Transportation from HVA will be provided.  See Mrs. Murrell in E205 for more information.

Student Athletes:  A Letterjacket representative will be in the HVA Multi-Purpose room on Wednesday, April 9th from 3:45 p.m. to finish taking orcers for jackets.  Bring a parent and an order form and he will fix you up.

Softball Hawks improved their record to 9-2 with a 2-1 win over league leading Maryville.  Kaleigh Wynne pitched the victory striking out 17 Maryville hitters.  Kaleigh also added 2 hits.  Olivia LaSorsa and Sarah Story knocked in the 2 runs for Hardin Valley.  Erin Moye scored the winning run.  Leslie Beecham had a triple and the outstanding defensive play of the game.  Haley Cloud reached base 3 times in the win.  Softball Hawks play at home on Thursday against Beaden.

Congratulations to HVA Tennis for their great win at Oak Ridge.  The girls won 9 matches to 0.  The boys won 5 matches to 4.  Special congratulations to Charlie Cianciolo/Grant Bauman who clinched the victory in doubles for HVA with an 8-3 win.  The girls are 5-0 and the boys are 5-1.

Tennis match at West Hills Park at 4 p.m. vs Farragut today.

Baseball improved to 11-1 overall last night by beating Lenoir City 6 to 4.  Dylan Harris got the win and pitched 6 shutout innings.  Baseball also won on Monday against Marvyille 7-3 and remains in first place in the district.  Will Neely was the winning pitcher in the Maryville game.  Come check out the Hawks play at home today against the Clinton Dragons at 5 p.m.

My Amazing Life is today, April 3rd.  All Juniors, please bring a calculator and pencil when your academy comes to the gym. They will follow the schedule below:
     1st Block - STEM Juniors
     2nd Block - Health Science Juniors
     3rd Block - BLPA Juniors - They will go to gym first and then eat lunch
     4th Block - Liberal Arts Juniors
Teacher:  Morning Byington kids will participate during 4th block and afternoon Byington kids will participate during 1st block.

All students attending the Julz Chavez presentation, should report to the Auditorium at the beginning of 3rd period.

Baseball improved to 12 and 1 last night by beating Clinton 10 to 2.  Trevor Lloyd got the win and Rudy Torres added the big swing as he hit the first homerun of the season for the Hawks.  Hunter Cameron also had two big hits.  HVA plays again tonight at Catholic at 6 p.m.

Boys' Soccer won last night 2-0 over Lenoir city.  Goals by Shawn Foster and Cameron Schneider.  Andrew Meek with a clean sheet.

Girls' Tennis with a big victory of 7 matches to 2 over Farragut.  5 of the wins were in singles by Sophia Cui, Georgiana Blue, Maggie Kohlbusch, Brianna Steffey, and Katie Barker.  Girls are now 6-0 on the season.

Today is the last day for Prom Tickets.

Reminder to all BLPA Seniors:  Applications for the $2,000 First Tennessee Bank Scholarship are due by April 8th to Mrs. Coffey in Guidance.  Applications can be found on the BLPA website, or you can see Mrs. Watson in D213.

Congratulations to the members of the 2014-2015 HVADT "the Hawkettes"!  Blakelee Packer, Cailyn Davis, Savannah Humble, Matheson Taylor, Summer Swail, Lydia Vaigneur, Cariyah Gula, Gracie Stinnet, Abbie Taylor, Kaitlyn Simpson, Morgan Jones, and Naomi Shoop.  Also, 4 incoming freshman.

Congratulations to the Boys' and Girls' Track Teams.  Both were champions at the Oak Ricge Relays this Saturday.  There were 7 school records set:
     Gabrielle Fewell in the Long Jump
     Weldon Wright in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump
     Blaine Shockley in the High Jump
     Ben McCay in the Pole Vault
     The Spring Medley Relay of Gia Faoro, Gabriele Fewell, Timera Rupers & Marissa Vincent

Come out Tuesday to the meet at Oak Ricge.  It is the first annual Battle of the Bridge - a traveling trophy meet - 5 p.m. at the high school.

Last chance to buy Prom Tickets is TODAY.  The PROM is Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Hardin Valley.  Prom tickets will be sold TODAY during all lunch periods.  This will be the last time that you can buy tickets.  Tickets are $50 each.

Congratulations to Zak Carter for being named to the TSWA All-State Basketball Team.  Zak was one of only 12 players in the state to receive this honor at the triple-A level.  This honor is a testament to the hard work put forth by Zak and the rest of the basketball team.  Congrats on a great season.

DECA members who are going to International Competition must see Mrs. Price before leaving school today.

A reminder to all Seniors.  There is a mandatory Senior meeting today at 11:40 a.m.  We will release you from class by intercom.  The only Seniors permitted to miss this meeting are those who have dual enrollment classes today.

Baseball improved to 14-2 last night with the regular season sweep of Heritage.  Tyler Thompson got the win and Seth Hunt and Sully Smoak each provided the Hawks with multiple hits.  Baseball plays a home double header tonight against Clinton at 5 and Noblesville, Indiana at 7:30 p.m.

Boys Soccer team won last night 2-0 over West High School.  Goals by Ivan Torres and Shawn Foster.  The Hawks are now 7-1-1 and ranked 5th in the state.

Softball Hawks improve to 11-6 for the season with a 10-0 win over West.  Molly Smith had 2 hits including 3-run triple.  Leslie Beecham also had 2 hits.  Kaleigh Wynne had 2 doubles and pitched the victory by giving up only 2 hits and striking out 12.  Hawks play at home tonight against Karns.  First pitch is 6 p.m.

RoHAWKtics Team members going to St. Louis must turn in grade sheets to Mrs. Love by the end of the day today.  No Exceptions.

The Indoor Percussion Ensemble had a wonderful performance on Thursday morning at World Championships and advanced to Semi-Finals this morning, Friday, April 11th.  The HVA Indoor Percussion Ensemble is in the top 32 ensembles from across the entire country.  This is a first for Hardin Valley and an incredible accomplishment.

TMTA Students:  We are meeting at the bus drop off/pick up area near the gym at 7:30 a.m. and leaving at 7:45 a.m.  They need to bring a pencil, ACT approved calculator, and $8 for lunch.

The National Achievers Society is open to students of color who will be in grades 10-12 beginning in the Fall of 2014 and have a 3.0 or higher GPA.  It is currently recruiting students for the September 2014 class of inductees.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the application deadline is May 9, 2014.

Baseball improved to 17-3 over the weekend after beating Mt. Juliet 5 to 4 and Powell 7 to 6.  Wins were recorded by Dylan Harris and Seth Hunt.  Vinny Gambuzza had a walk-off hit scoring Tyler Thompson to end the Powell game.  The Hawks play at West tonight at 6 p.m. and are back at home Wednesday night against William Blount, also at 6 p.m.

Attention all students registered for an AP exam.  This Wednesday, April 16th, during 1st block is a mandatory pre-grid session.  All students must attend.  If you know you will not be here, you must see Mrs. Coffey or Mrs. Degges in Guidance.  All students need to report to 1st block and you will be released at 8:40 a.m.

Special Olympics has been moved to Wednesday and Thursday.

Hardin Valley's Softball Hawks improved their record to 12-6 with a 2-0 win over Karns on Friday night.  Kaleigh Wynne pitched the shutout by giving up only 2 hits and stirking out 10.  Kaleigh also had a double and scored one of the Hawks two runs.  Leslie Beecham and Halle McGuire each drove in a run to lead the Hawks.  The Softball Hawks play at William Blount today at 5 p.m.

Happy Tax Day . . . almost.  For all of you who had a paying job in 2013, tomorrow is tax day.  Yes, April 15th is right around the corner and you must turn in your Federal Income Tax Return.  If you have not picked up your Federal Tax Booklet yet, stop by The Hawks' Nest Egg and ask for a Federal Tax 1040 EZ booklet.  And while you're there, ask about converting your account to eStatements.  The friendly interns will be happy to help you.

Congratulations to the boys and girls track and field teams.  They both won in the Tennessee Relays this weekend.  There were 7 school records set and we had 6 event winners.  Tamia Crocket was named Field Event MVP.  School records:

The National Achievers Society is open to students of color who will be in grades 10-12 beginning in the Fall of 2014 and have a 3.0 or higher GPA.  It is currently recruiting students for the September 2014 class of inductees.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the application deadline is May 9, 2014.

Student athletes and students interested in participating in HVA sports next year should attend KOC Sports Physicals at Thompson-Boling Arena on Saturday, April 26th, 10 a.m. with a parent signed physical form and $10.  This is the only date for the KOC physicals and they are good for the 2014-15 school year.

Congratulations to the following FBLA members who placed 5th in the team event of Emerging Business Issues at the State FBLA Competition this week in Chattanooga, TN:  Alex Seay, J'Tia Williamson, and Cole Parks.

Congratulations to Hardin Valley Indoor Percussion who competed at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH on April 10th & 11th.  They gave a terrifc performance in Preliminary Competition and for the first time in school history earned the right to advance into the Semi-Finals Round at Worlds.  This placed them in the top 32 ensembles in Percussion Scholastic A Class.  They have enjoyed a very successful competitive season finishing in 1st place three times, winning the Silver Medal at CIPA Championships, and placing in the Semi-Finals at WGI World Championships.  They have represented Hardin Valley very well and have demonstrated great loyalty and dedication to the Indoor Program.  The staff and parents are very proud of you.  Congratulations to everyone.

Baseball won at West last night 14 to 7.  Tyler Thompson got the win.  Zach Sears hit a homer and Sully Smoak and Seth Hunt each had three hits.  The Hawks play a big district game at home tomorrow against William Blount at 6 p.m.

Attention Tennessee Achieves Scholars.  You should have received information about the date and time of your assigned orientation.  This orientation is required to keep your eligibility.  Students must arrive on time and stay for the duration of the orientation to receive credit with tnAchieves and the college.  If you need to ask off work, please do so now!  Each orientation will be approximately four hours long and the students must be present the entire time.

No makeup testing center on Wednesday morning.

FCCLA Jammin' & Jelly will be Wednesday at 2:45 in E205.  This is our last meeting this year.

All Junior Marshals need to see either Ms. Sherman or Ms. Roberts in the Library as soon as possible.

A big congratulations to the Girls' Tennis Team for their 5 to 4 win over Bearden.  Girls were down 3 to 4 until Georgiana Blue tied it and Sophia Cui won it in singles.  Laura Beth Hardesty won both of her matches at #1 singles and #1 doubles.  Brianna Steffey/Katie Barker also won a key doubles match.  The girls are now 10-1 so far this season.

Hardin Valley's Softball Hawks went 3-0 during the weekend with a 13-3 win over Heritage, a 6-5 win over Anderson County, and a 2-1 win over West.  Kaleigh Wynne and Molly Smith pitched the Hawks to the 3 wins.  Kaleigh, Halle McGuire, and Leslie Beecham all had homeruns during the weekend.  During the weekend, Halle got on base 8 out of 10 at bats including 2 doubles.  Sarah Story and Olivia LaSorsa got game winning hits in the two one-run games.  The Softball Hawks improved their record to 15-7 and play at Bearden this afternoon.

Hardin Valley's Softball Hawks beat Bearden yesterday in extra innings 2-0. The Hawks scored two runs in the top of the 9th to improve their record to 16-7.  Kaleigh Wynne pitched the 9 inning shutout giving up only 2 hits and striking out 8 while the defense committed no errors.  Kaleigh also had the game winning double scoring Haley Cloud from first.  The Softball Hawks play again Thursday afternoon at Maryville to finish regular season.

Baseball beat Bearden last night 12-9 and improved to 22-3 overall and 11-1 in District play.  Last night's win secures the top seed in the District Tournament.  Will Neely got the win and Matt Turner saved the game.  The Hawks pounded 14 hits in the game highlighted by Sully Smoak's two-run homerun in the first inning.  The Hawks play at home tonight against Maryville at 6 p.m.

Boy's Soccer defeated CAK 3-1 and will play Maryville on Thursday.

The Earth Club will meet today after school for a year-end celebration.  We will see you after Early Release in E102.
